French Voltiguers

Chris mentioned we needed more French Skirmishers for the Waterloo game, so I dug about in the drawer and found these chaps to paint. Hope you enjoy. As always comments welcome.

Waterloo Project - Test Game

Apologies in advance for this being photo heavy.
Back on March 1st we had a test game for the Waterloo project. Normally I leave updates for this to the excellent Chris Gregg and his blog, however I couldn't resist.
Hope you enjoy the photos guys!

Back on it

Well, the Waterloo tester game was a massive wakeup call for me, reminding me I've got over 300 figures left to paint, so I got back into it over the last weekend.

Firstly I painted up my second Company of Coldstream Guards to join the first centre company which I painted some time ago. I am not willing to enter into the debate over the colour of their trousers - they are all done now!

Coldstream Guards Centre Company
Then I constructed and painted black an entire box of "Warlord Games British Starter Army" to make my 27th Inniskillen Regiment.
Construction begins outside on the 27th Inniskillen Regiment
As you can see, I only managed 7 companies from the whole box, and so I need 2 more companies and a lot of command figures to make up the last 3 companies.
7 Companies of 18 figures each. Only another 3 Companies to add!
A monumental task if ever I've seen one! Warlord have sold a few more boxes.

Waterloo Tester Game

Not wishing to give too much away but I was privileged to take part in a tester game for the Waterloo anniversary game at the beginning of the month.
The rules were created by Chris Gregg and played well, although it was agreed a few minor changes were needed.
Although intended to merely test the rules, I had a fantastic time as well.
Next month we are testing the cavalry rules!

Battle of Paris 1814

A few photos from my wargame groups last wargame - The Battle of Paris in 1814.
A closely fought game, which resulted in an Allied tactical victory - mainly due to attrition and casualties in the French ranks
By the close of play, all of the major terrain objectives were still under French Control.
On the right, an Austrian attack had been repulsed by the Young Guard and French regulars.
In the centre, the Old Guard had fought well against a Russian, Austrian and Prussian onslaught, whilst the Red Lancers had almost single handedly routed the allied cavalry
Out on the French left, the battalions of National Guard and Marie Louises fought valiantly against experienced Russian infantry and Cossacks!

The offending article

Well here they are,  the offending French infantry involved in Varnishgate.
5 companies in addition to the 2 painted previously. The intention is to use these to bulk out other battalions (24 to 28 man battalions etc) and also to operate independently (I have a lot of random command figures which I'll use to make command stands later)
Figures are from Warlord Games
As you can see they are suffering the effects of varnish but you'd probably not notice that much in the middle of a battle...
I hope..

Today's contribution

I finished these French Line infantry centre companies today, all from Warlord Games. I had intended to finish more, but unfortunately I appear to be suffering the on-set of the dreaded man-flu, and concentrating was a struggle. Also, after spraying Volspar Clear Plastic Sealant into my eye yesterday, I've been feeling a tad unmotivated.

Here are a few battalions of French line infantry, which are a mix of Perry and Warlord Games figures. Flags are a mixture of Victrix and GMB. These are some of my older units
